High Adventure or Cautious Mediocrity

I have wandered in the wilderness, lost and homeless. Hungry and thirsty, I nearly died.

I have sat in darkness and deepest gloom, imprisoned in iron chains of misery, for rebelling against the words of God and scorning the counsel of the Most High. So he broke me with hard labor; I fell, and no one was there to help me.

I have been through storms that have tossed my ship to the heavens and plunged it again to the depths, causing me to cringe in terror, and reel and stagger like a drunkard, and bring me to my wits’ end.

“Lord , help!” I cried in my trouble, and he rescued me from my distress. He led me straight to safety, to a city where I could live.

He led me from the darkness and deepest gloom; he snapped my chains. He broke down the prison gates of bronze and cut apart the bars of iron that held me captive.

He calmed the storm to a whisper and stilled the waves. What a blessing was that stillness as he brought me safely into harbor!

Through it all, I have learned that the Lord my God is always with me. He has never left me nor forsaken me. His love for me has never changed.

So I will praise the Lord for his great love and for the wonderful things he has done for me. I will offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and sing joyfully about his glorious acts. I will exalt him publicly before the congregation and before the leaders of the nation.
